Ehsaas Trust Internationa, Dard welfare society and ATHWAS UK introduce Free Meals Initiative – a program that provides hot meals to attendants of various hospitals of Srinagar, these attendants usually accompany the patient’s from far off locations and stay in these hospitals with them. With the Covid_19 situation, the eateries in and around the hospitals are closed and no public transport plying on the roads, this makes it very difficult and hectic for the attendants to arrange for their food, especially the one’s hailing from far flung areas. This move was much appreciated by the locals, and many thanked the efforts of people behind such an innovative step forward. The Volunteers from Ehsaas International in collaboration with Dard welfare society took pains to cook variety of meals, pack it hygienically and deliver to attendants at hospital waiting areas. The idea behind this act is very simple, it not only saves such people time, effort but also keeps them at bay from the danger of travelling frequently in such times that can easily put them at risk of contracting Covid while traveling or even opting to have meals from eateries if open anyways. This also saves their money that they shall spend on food when people are already low on finances due to lockdown. Till now 20,000 such hot fresh meals have been distributed in many hospitals in Srinagar. Taking about this initiative Hakim Muhammad Ilyas said, “Our endeavor is to reach out to as many people as possible, we are not only helping these people with freshly cooked meals but also in a way restricting their movement, that could eventually lead to anyone contracting covid while in pursuit of getting food from outside or from home, thus helping them stay put and be safe from contracting virus whilst trying to arrange food, it helps them and the whole society as well”
