District Legal Authority and Ehsaas International conducts awareness program on Child Rights and Sanitization during Covid 19
One day awareness program on Child Rights and Sanitization during Covid 19 was conducted at Markazi Falahi Mastoorat (Nari Niketan) Shalimar Srinagar by District Legal Authority Srinagar and Ehsaas Trust International. The program was inaugurated by Syed Adnan Judge/ Secretary, District Legal Authority Srinagar (DLSA) followed with his expert lecture. The Program was attended by 50 orphans of Markazi Falahi Mastoorat (Nari Niketan) it is to mention the Markaz is providing shelter and protection to destitute, deprived, socially marginalized girls who have been orphaned.
Mrs. Kheir-u-nisa Board member of J&K Juvenile Justice provided detailed information about unprecedented increase in the crimes by children who are below the age of 16 years. She also highlighted the reasons advocated for the development of such behaviour among children, The upbringing environment of the child, economic conditions, lack of education and parental care. Toll free helpline number 1098 of Juvenile Justice was shared among the attendees for professional help.
One 9th class girl of markaz namely Khushboo said they (orphans) are all equally important and they cannot be taken away. All children have all these rights, no matter who they are, where they live, what language they speak, what their religion is, if they are a boy or girl, No child should be treated unfairly for any reason.
Senior Advocate of High court of J&K, Mohd Altaf Khan interacted with the participants and apprised them concepts about good touch and bad touch. He guided them how to learn about these body parts, their functions, safety, and what privacy and private parts mean. Children must know that no one is ever allowed to touch their private parts, and that it is important to keep these areas covered and safe in public spaces (which includes school too). It is also important to teach children about respect for ‘body space’ he added.
Special Officer from World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Aashiq Rashid while delivering his lecture said that, It is unclear whether children are as susceptible to infection by Covid compared with adults and whether they can transmit the virus as effectively as adults. Recent evidence suggests that children likely have the same or higher viral loads in their nasopharynx compared with adults and that children can spread the virus effectively. Children infected with Covid may have many of these non-specific symptoms, may only have a few (such as only upper respiratory symptoms or only gastrointestinal symptoms), or may be asymptomatic. He insisted to follow guidelines in letter and spirit.
